An Interview with Nicole and Casey

By Miki Nagasawa and Naoko Matsumoto

Why did you choose TWCU?

Casey ― Because TWCU connects to Mount Holyoke College. In addition, this university is better than other internships. For example, the person who I’m going to work with, the place where I’ll live.

Nicole ― There is wide range of topics being studied here and many students know subjects like gender issues and politics issues.

Casey ― And also, the way students have to write papers in English for their final graduation essay is unique. Other universities don’t have that.

What do you think about TWCU students?

Nicole ― They are so kind and a little bit quiet.

Casey ― There are a lot of opportunities to communicate with foreign people, so they handled with people from other countries very well.

What did you feel when you came to Japan?

Nicole ― At first, I was so surprised at the number of tasks I must do. It was difficult for me to adjust my schedule, but it’s ok now.

Which do you like to visit, Nishiogikubo or Kichijoji?

Nicole ― For me, Kichijoji is good for shopping, but I like Nishiogikubo. The reason is because, it is a good place to walk around. We go to Nishiogikubo more often than Kichijoji.

Where is your favorite place in Japan?

Nicole ― Asakusa is my favorite, because I have learned about the Edo period. It was very interesting for me to watch the difference of izakaya between in the Edo period and now. Especially Kaminarimon is my recommendation. I tried Jinrikisya and it was so funny.

Casey ― For me, Harajuku and Shinjuku are good because these are very busy places of Tokyo. I was so impressed by these two.

What did you prepare for this internship?

Nicole ― I learned Chinese characters, TOEFL, TOEIC and IBT.

Casey ― I did two things. One was to come up with activities that we do with students. The other was to think daily day life.

Do you have any advice for students who want to come to TWCU from Mount Holyoke College?

Casey ― It is important to be proactive about future internship and set your goal.

Nicole ― Be careful of your time, because two months flew by so fast and it is better to list what do you want to do in internship.

Thanks a lot, Nicole and Casey !
