I am from the United States, but have lived in several different countries and have traveled to about 40 countries, 40 Japanese prefectures, and 40 US states. I have a B.A. in Rhetoric from the University of Illinois and an M.A. in Education from Columbia University, started my career as a writer and editor, and was creative director of a bilingual arts magazine. I have also studied and taught film and media, and am highly interested in art and science. I have been teaching literature, academic reading and writing, communication, discussion, presentation, research, and thesis-writing courses for over 10 years, and will be teaching some of these at TWCU. My classes encourage students to follow their interests and to improve research, project management, and presentation skills. My own research is about how students learn, how people read, and how instructors can check student progress. I actively present, publish, and review research at conferences and in academic journals. I look forward to meeting and working with TWCU students!
